A 1,500-pound bronze statue of UNCG’s mascot, the Spartan, now overlooks campus from between the softball and soccer stadiums. Sculpted by Jodi and Hanna Hollnagel-Jubran, the 14-foot statue was installed in February. It was part of Irwin “Ike” Belk’s contribution to The Students First Campaign, which also included an athletics scholarship and the Irwin Belk Recreational Track and Sports Area.
