Public Health faculty, student earn advanced designation
Three faculty members and a doctoral student from the Department of Public Health Education are among the first in the nation to be named Master Certified Health Education Specialists (MCHES) by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.
Faculty members Dr. James Eddy, Dr. Michael Perko and William Evans are among the inaugural cohort, along with Michelle Cathorall, a doctoral candidate in public health education. Several UNCG public health education alumni are also included.
The first group of Master Certified Health Education Specialists, which includes 812 people, was chosen by demonstrating their advanced level of practice and competency in the field of health education, both through their portfolios of work and professional recommendations. The new certification level spotlights practitioners who have an advanced level of knowledge and skill in the health education field.
The Department of Public Health Education is housed in UNCG’s new School of Health and Human Sciences.
