What the Dickens? UNCG throws a birthday bash for a beloved writer
UNCG is hosting a 200th birthday celebration for Charles Dickens, who penned such classics as “Oliver Twist,” “David Copperfield,” “Great Expectations” and “A Christmas Carol.”
Matthew Pearl, New York Times best-selling author of “The Last Dickens” and other literary thrillers such as “The Poe Shadow” and “The Dante Club,” headlines the program. Pearl, promoting his latest novel, “The Technologists,” speaks Thursday, March 1, at 7 p.m. in the Virginia Dare Room, UNCG Alumni House.
This “Dickens of a Celebration,” is sponsored by UNCG University Libraries, the Friends of the UNCG Libraries, the English department, the Freshman Seminar Program, the Atlantic World Research Network, the Greensboro Public Library and others. In addition to Pearl’s visit, events include Dickens exhibits, film screenings, book discussions and lectures by Dickens scholars, now through March 31.
All events, including Pearl’s talk, are free and open to the public.
Some events take place on the UNCG campus, others at public library branches. For a detailed listing, visit http://tinyurl.com/DickensUNCG.
