‘Threepenny Opera’ comes to the stage Sept. 28-Oct. 6
“The Threepenny Opera,” a play considered a classic of 20th century musical theatre, will be performed Sept. 28-Oct. 6 in UNCG’s Taylor Theatre.
Written by composer Kurt Weill and poet-playwright Bertolt Brecht, the work was penned as a social satire of traditional operas, complete with sharp political perspectives and a soundtrack of 1920’s Berlin dance bands and cabaret. Among the play’s enduring legacies is the song “Mack the Knife,” which has been covered by a Who’s Who list of artists including Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Bobby Darin and Ella Fitzgerald.
